commitment fee

(1) a payment by a prospective borrower to a prospective lender in return for the lender's promise to loan money at a specified future date. (2) in the secondary market, a payment by a primary lender to Freddie Mac or other mortgage buyer for the buyer's promise to buy loans at a future date.
